In response to the recommendations of the third webinar, ESCWA organized a session chaired by Mr. Ismail Lubbad, in which Dr. Amor Laaribi, a consultant in geospatial information, gave an assessment of the infrastructure of the geographic information systems (GIS), which would facilitate the adoption of such technology in planning for the 2022 Population and Housing Census (PHC) and Agriculture Census (AC) in Sudan. He presented the availability of a wide range of geospatial technological tools for use in census mapping and discussed geocoding scheme and common geographic frame between the PHC and the AC. Dr. laaribi also gave an overview of the main results of a brief survey on the current GIS and mapping situation in Sudan. The webinar was concluded with a discussion about the importance of training, satellite images and their resolutions, Information Technology/GIS/GPS integration, types of agriculture holdings and possible way forward.
