In view of the three pressing environmental challenges faced by the Arab region, namely land degradation, climate change and solid waste accumulation, it is urgent to set a clear and integrated road map towards sustainable development that can prevent the depletion of natural resources.
This was the main message relayed by ESCWA at the Fourth Scientific Seminar, held virtually as part of the 8th session of the Arab Forum for Scientific Research and Sustainable Development by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) on 27 August.
ESCWA also highlighted the dire need for scientific research to find solutions to the region’s pervasive and emerging challenges.
