Renewable energy legislations and policies in the Arab region
January 2019

It highlights the institutional frameworks, strategies, legislation and policies and the financing mechanisms of renewable energy projects in each of the Arab countries.
The fact sheet indicates that promoting renewable energy utilization requires the adoption of an integrated set of actions that include laws, regulatory framework and supportive policies that provide incentives for the private sector to be engaged in the renewable energy industry and long-term power purchase agreements of electricity produced by renewable energy sources. This will also encourage the use of green technologies, protect the intellectual property, support research and development (R&D) activities and enhance the cooperation with relevant international and regional institutions.
