On 30 and 31 May, ESCWA, the League of Arab States (LAS), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) virtually held the ninth session of the Arab Climate Outlook Forum (ArabCOF), as well as the sixth session of the Gulf Cooperation Council Climate Outlook Forum (GCC-COF).
Representatives from various Arab meteorological agencies and climate experts presented and discussed current and anticipated conditions for the summer months, before releasing a seasonal forecast statement for the region.
A case study on sand and dust storms was also presented, suggesting a series of mitigation measures through joint projects between some Arab countries including Iraq and Kuwait.
