The Government Electronic and Mobile Services (GEMS) Maturity Index, a tool for digital transformation in government, was the subject of a presentation by ESCWA on 11 June at a virtual symposium on smart cities organized by the Oman Smart City Platform.
The presentation highlighted the crucial importance of e-services for the preparedness and resilience of cities in times of crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. It also explained the role of ESCWA in helping Arab States reengineer their business processes and develop their digital capacity.
Discussions emphasized how important it has become for Governments to deliver e-services through mobile apps and exert efforts to reach all individuals. Digital services should also be secure, accessible and intuitive, and should offer user citizens the possibility to share their opinion on service quality.
