ESCWA Joins Regional Efforts to Achieve SDGs

Beirut, 10 February 2017 (Communication and Information Unit) -- Within the framework of its role in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is taking part in the specialised Arab organisations meeting to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, held by the League of Arab States (LAS) at its Cairo headquarters on 13-14 February 2017. The Commission will be represented by its Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme Support Khawla Mattar,
 
Mattar will deliver a statement during the first plenary session while Karima Al Korri, the officer in charge of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Unit under the ESCWA Social Development Division, will also take part in the bilateral deliberations with the LAS, Arab organisations and the relevant focal points.
 
The meeting will gather senior officials in Arab organisations and experts in sustainable development in order to build a strong Arab team that works on achieving the 17 SDGs at the economic, social, and environmental levels. The meeting aims to support Arab States in implementing their respective national sustainable development plans for the 2030 Agenda.
 
Participants include a score of relevant Arab, international and United Nations organisations.
