Open government and digital transformation for the New Urban Agenda

Urbanization is rapidly increasing worldwide, and it is expected to rise to 68% by 2050. In this regard, ESCWA, UN-Habitat and OECD discussed in Cairo on 18 November an upcoming paper on open government tackling smart digital solutions and innovation for Arab cities development.
 
Participants exchanged knowledge and best practices on open government and digital transformation in cities and discussed the related challenges and opportunities for implementing the New Urban Agenda and the 2030 Development Agenda in the Arab region.
 
The role of smart and digital technologies and innovation in local urban development in the Arab region was also discussed, where speakers pointed to examples of how technologies can be used to enhance urban resilience, while exploring related thematic priorities.
