January 2007
This study aims to find common ground between Governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for the implementation of the Convention to Eliminate All Forms of Discrimination against Women in Arab countries. It discusses ratification of the Convention by the Arab countries and analyses the reservations they have made thereto. It also reviews the mechanisms used to monitor and follow up implementation of the Convention by countries and civil society organizations and presents practical recommendations concerning the main strategic stages in implementing the Convention. The study is based on data from a desktop survey and questionnaire which the ESCWA Centre for Women administered to NGOs.
