Negotiations

Since 2013, ESCWA has been providing technical support to Arab negotiators on climate change through regional capacity-building workshops on climate change negotiations, which ESCWA organizes in partnership with the League of Arab States, Arab Group of climate change negotiators, UNEP/ROWA and UNESCO/Cairo Office. October 2023 marks ten years of capacity building on climate change negotiations for Arab countries.

The Arab Group of climate change negotiators participates in these biannual workshops, which are called for under ESCWA resolution 329 (XXX) and mandated by the Council of Arab Minsters Responsible for the Environment (CAMRE) and the Arab Ministerial Water Council (AMWC).

These workshops tackle negotiations under the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement, in addition to other issues including access to finance, technology and scientific knowledge to increase understanding of impact and response measures.
