The three working groups established under the Multi-Stakeholder Platform for Protecting Biodiversity in the Arab Region are convening their first in-person meetings. The gatherings build upon a series of online meetings in which members discussed and finalized the working modalities of the groups, initiating conversations on priority ideas that could be transformed into fundable projects aimed at protecting biodiversity and enhancing climate resilience.
The objective of these in-person meetings is to advance the development of concept notes for proposed projects and to plan the next steps and set priorities for future actions.
The meetings are organized by the respective leading institutions of the three working groups, with the support of ESCWA. The schedule is as follows:
- Land Degradation in Arid Agricultural Ecosystems Working Group (led by the Arab Centre for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands - ACSAD): 29–30 November 2024 in Amman, Jordan.
- Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Resilience Working Group (led by the American University of Beirut - AUB): 6–7 January 2025 in Amman, Jordan.
- Renewable Energy and Biodiversity Working Group (led by the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency - RCREEE): 8–9 January 2025 in Cairo, Egypt.
