This brief lays out the definition and principles of social justice and discusses relevant global examples of effective mechanisms and tools to achieve a just society, based on the premise that social justice is a normative concept centered on the notion of “fairness” and the principles of equality, equity, rights and participation. It also discusses challenges to social justice in the Arab region and the policy implications of some needed reforms, such as combating corruption and widening participation.
